Log the Thirteenth

I wonder at how everyone knows the location of Hell's Triangle. It took us damn near three weeks to get there, which means that it must be hell and gone from the usual routes of traffic.

Carthy still seems determined to get us to turn back. He is now telling us that we will need 4 more artifacts to get ourself out of the triangle. Coincidentally enough, they are the same artifacts that are shown on the map. Personally I think that he has lost the will to live on the sea and just longs for his comfy chair and expensive brandy.

As we sailed a wall of fog appeared in front of us and the wind was stolen from our sails. The rigging started to frost over and the crew huddled together for warmth. Drak and Carthy worked some magic with the sextant and got the ship moving forward, although it was nowhere near the pace that we were expecting. The fog quickly envoloped the ship and was so thick that a body couldn't see their feet when standing still. It was then that we started hearing something strange moving in the fog. It sounded like something was sailing past us, but with the fog we couldn't be sure. So the captain ordered us all below decks. Now I can't rightly say what happened, since I was following the captain's orders, but Mistress comes a stumbling down the stairs with a frozen body of Posey in her arms looking like she had had a tussle with a sea dragon herself. We tried to bring him back, but the blessing of Harrimast had left him. We had no choice but to stay below decks and pray that we weren't sailing in circles. It took us damn near 10 hours to finally get through the fog. And when it was clear and we was celebrating our luck that damned Carthy starts laying on his dread predictions. He was claiming that even worse things lay beyond the triangle, just waiting to steal our souls.

'Twas just a few hours later that we started noticing a strom moving in on us. And the ship was moving faster that it had a right to do. As the lighting crashed around us, we could just make out a huge whirlpool ahead of us. Carthy starts screaming orders above the storm, telling us that we have to head into the whirlpool, for it is the center of the triangle. We had just breached the lip of the whirling waters when a bolt of lightning crashed to the deck and a devilish creature appeared. I had heard tell of such boney devils living in the firey pits of the underworld, but never expected to see one with me own eyes. As soon as it appeared the creature started laying into Carthy, who had all of his attention directed to the sextant and keeping us alive. The crew scattered about the deck, the very prescence of the devil causing the blood in their veins to chill. They could only cower in terror at this hideous beast. The rest of us leap into the fray. Lucky was dodging the beast as best he could and chipping away at it with his blade, although it seemed like we were trying to cut through steel. Kemby stays at the wheel, trying to keep the ship from tipping over. The captains' magic seemed useless as did mine. Most of our magicks just seemed to disapate when it reached the creature. The ship was being battered by the storm and struck by lightning and the crew started screaming about us taking on water. Carthy was still taking a beating from the beast so I moved in to help the poor man. Unfortunately, we discovered that Carthy had been keeping a secret from us. As the healing magic touched his skin, it blacked and crisped, like paper in a fire.

Carthy was one of the undead!!

The battle seemed nearly lost, when the captain tried a desperate trick.
With a wave of his hands he turned Carthy invisible. The creature seemed confused and turned to lay his claws into Lucky. Within seconds captain Bonny had rendered all of us invisible and we were drawing blood from the creature with every hit. Looking over the side we could see the rocky sea bottom rushing up to meet us, when a blast of lightning struck the mast and toppled the cross beam, pinning the devil creature under it. The rocks rushed towards us and a flash of light was the last memory.

When we came to, we saw ourselfs in calm seas, with 4 islands visible nearby, much as our map had shown. Carthy lay on the deck, the magic leaving his undead body. He was able to give us a final message, telling us that we would have to collect the 4 other artifacts if we were to see the treasure and Freeport again. Each island contained an artifact and was held by one of the Full Fathom Five, who were now undead beings like himself. They had sold their souls to Yarassad in hopes of getting their revenge. He also asked that we should give a message to Black Jenney when we finally met her. He asks that we tell her that Carthy still loves her.

And all that stands between us and untold riches are 4 of the most fearsome pirates that the world had ever known.
