Log The Sixth

Remind me to never, ever play cards with Mistress...the lady must have the luck of a dozen creatures to still be walking around like she is.

Hut, we should be startin' at the beginin'. After we had seen poor ole Flint off to the ship of souls, we came back to the ship to see how old Lucien was handling the news. By now he was all business again and started in on tellin' us all about the island of Yarashad. Much of it we'd already learned, what with it appearin' every 150 years and bein' hide behind the devils triangle and all that. He was utter convinced that we needed some magical sextant to be gettin' us through the triangle in one piece, although where we could be findin' one is beyond us. We figured that we would head back to the temple of knowledge and let the old bugger look through some books and see if he can figure anything out.

About this time the captain done finally had it with Mistress not havin' a proper bosun whistle and all. He done tell her that if she don't have one by the end of day that she'll be fined 200 pieces of gold. That seemed to motivate her for a wee bit.

So Lucien, Lusius and Kemby all head out to the temple, while the captain and I head out to see if we can get little Snee, our new goblin friend, made a freeman in some manner. Seems that the city wasn't big on that, but we did gets him declared as valuable property, so if someone starts messing with him, we can at least bring the law down upon them. And I don't know what it be with Kemby, the boy seems to be attracting trouble where ever he goes. Seems that during his visit to the temple it was attacked by some knife wielding maniac. Threatened one of the brothers there and scared him something fierce.

By some strange coincident, we all ended up meetin' outside of the temple and starts discussin' what we find. Turns out that we is missin' some key information and that it probably be in a book titled "The cycle of Yarash". Now the temple has one, but they ain't lettin' any one look at it without the authorization of the sea lord...and since there ain't been one of them in town for many a year, 'tis not likely that we'll be seeing the book soon. Although it turns out that there be more than one copy and after trackin' some leads we ends up back at Rudolpho's Exotic book shop. Now, poor old Rudolpho had seen the business end of club and wasn't none too keen on talking to the likes of us that messed with his business. But the ole Harrimast touch, some kind words and a bag of gold gets us a bad copy of the book. Old Lucien finds us some info that the way through the triangle is shown by a magical sextant and that an old sailor by the name of Carthy is holding on to one. And it seems that Carthy is being sheltered by the church of Harrimast. Looks like it's time to visit the old stompin' grounds.

Strange bit of stuff happened on the way there. As we was gettin' close to the temple we spot some more of them newly imported orcs makin' a bit speech on temple street. Seems one of them is claiming to be a descendant of Drake and that he's claiming that he'll be the next sea lord and make some big changes. Now, I can't claim that he'll be able to follow through on his plans, but I'm willin' to support his cause and give him the benefit of the doubt. Which is more than the rest of the crew did. I could barely hear what he was saying, what with all the laughin' and hecklin' going on. Although he does seem to have the startin' of some sort of organization going on, what with all his followers wearin' them funny floppy green hats and long black coats. Mistress did catch a look of someone watchin' us, but he lost us quick in the alleys.

When we finally done walk into the temple of Harrimast, it felt like we was on the high seas and the world was ripe for a pickin'. The inside of the temple look much like any other church, 'cept that the entire ceiling was covered with ropes and riggin and such. Lookin' up, you could almost believe that you was on the high seas. So we start talkin' to the high priest, old peg leg trying to gather some info about Carthy, but he was reluctant to let anything slip. Seems that he was a bit worried about who we was and what was our interest in Carthy. Although the mention of Yarash did loosen him enough to tell us that Yarash was the bastard first mate that betrayed Harrimast. Of course Harrimast beat down the bastard and triumphed at the end of day, but it is a sad state when the crew turn on their captain.

So as we was talkin' the doors crash open and there be 4 orcs come marchin' into the temple. They had a vicious look in their eyes and started swingin their axes down upon us with narry a breath to spare. And then their friends come a crashin' through the windows of the church and start drawin' steel. Now, the crew respond much like they should; Kemby starts by charging them bastards, while Lucius and Mistress take ot the rigging so fast they seem to disappear. One of them orcs starts throwing mystical energies around, so I bring down a wall of silence upon him and the captain spits out that spider curse.

And then we gets a nasty surprise.
Some of them other orcs start waving their hands and the air just start becoming thick with the magic. I ain't heard too many tales of orcs that be capable of casting magic and here we have a whole room full of them. Now some of them energies done cause Kemby to freeze like he was a statue, but Lucien come a swinging down and protect his back. The captain is unleashing hellbolts into these bastards and they just refuse to die. Old Peg Leg lands a killin' blow to one of them and the body that hits the ground be that of a human, dressed in black robes. And the dagger that hits the ground seems coated in some sort of sticky black substance. Mistress soon finds out really hard that they be using poisoned blades on us. One of them false orcs swings up beside her and buries his blade into her back and she falls from the rigging faster than a pirate can swill grog. Old Peg Leg does us a favour at that point and bring the blessing of Harrimast down on a bunch of us and Mistress manages to sit up and whimper. And thanks to peg legs shouting, we realize that the bastards are trying to desecrate the alter. Well, Lucien and his back bitting blade take quick work of that.
And then we get another surprise. It seems that all those strange tales were true! The doors burst open again and the Maurading were-Manta comes rushing in, laying waste to them bastards like they was nothing. Obviously this Manta is doing Harrimast's work. 'Bout this time them bastards decide that it be time to book and start runnin' the way they came. 2 of them make it out the door before Mistress, Kemby and Peg Leg get to the door. Too bad Kemby was not paying attention and the last goon done skip that blade between his ribs. The goon died for that, but Kemby started looking all pale and such...almost as sickly as Mistress. With the fight all but over, Peg Leg starts looking over our wounds and quick as you can say manages to pull the poison out of Kemby and keep us all from dying. Mistress still looks like a hungry mosquito could drop her in a fair fight, but at least we all be walking around. I still don't understand how that woman managed to live this far. You would think that after nearly dying, she would sit down and contemplate life. But I guess that's not how Mistress mind does work, for when the goons was rushing out the door, she was charging right out after them. Lucky for her, Kemby must have seemed like the bigger target.

So now we managed to get a good look at these bastards and seems like they all belong to some sort of cult. On their hand is the same skull symbol that we find on the map. Peg Leg starts tellin' us how that be the symbol of the Foul favoured five or some such silliness. Seems like someone be expecting us after this. But we did get what we came there for. Peg Leg seemed convinced by our fightin' and tells us that Carthy be living under an assumed name and that he know where the sextant be.

Seems that our destiny lies beyond the devils triangle.
